BACKGROUND:
We have been inundated with requests for a version of our popular SI "Shooter Installed" Magwell to fit the Springfield EMP3. Our SI magwell has become sort of the "go-to" for no-gunsmith 1911 magwells. We've always liked the little guns, and were excited to see how much demand there was for an EMP-specific SI Magwell.
In order to do this, we had to take some specific modifications to our design. One, the dimensions are different of course, but two, the EMP factory magazines have a baseplate design that interferes with the front contours of our SI. We redesigned the front contours to specifically work with the factory Springfield magazines.
The magwell makes the pistol much more comfortable to shoot because of the roundbutt, the funnel makes reloads so much faster and reliable and of course, the custom VZ Grips match the magwell perfectly and the standard thickness gives quite a bit more control when shooting. We hope the wait is worth it.

NOTE ON GRIPS: The EMP SI Magwell was intentionally designed with the standard width grip profile to give the shooter a worthwhile increase in reload speed and comfort while shooting. In our testing, we found that we couldn’t offer a significant increase in the funnel area while following the profile of the factory (slim) EMP3 grips. Furthermore, many shooters find they can control the 1911 platform much better with standard-thickness grips, as opposed to slim grips. We collaborated with VZ Grips to make custom EMP3 grips specifically for use with our EMP3 SI Magwell. They follow standard thickness profile, are contoured to exactly match the lines of our magwell, and are flat-bottomed to give a very cohesive, finished look. We highly recommend switching the factory EMP3 grips to VZ Grips’ EMP3 magwell grips. They will sit flush with the magwell and the G10 material offers superior grip in conjunction with the SI Magwell’s 25 LPI checkering.
